Bonzai Pizza!!

Tired of the bland old pizza joints, the same waiter and the boring décor. Then you should try Bonzai. Located at 107 North Walnut Street Grand Island, NE. They have some cool, unique décor that give it a beach bar type of feel to it. It has bar signs, fake plastic sharks and netting hanging from the ceiling.
With more neon bar signs covering the walls, a pinball machine, a cool old white van and umbrella tables this place seemed like a great place to bring friends and family to have a good time. On some of the tables there is a centerpiece that sits higher off the table and gets in the way of being able to see people on the other side of the table. It also seemed a little to dark in there. Then we got in there we were free to pick where we wanted to sit.

The service was friendly and quick. She made sure we had plenty to drink and everything we needed for our meal. We did notice that she didn’t wear a Bonizai shirt or have a name tag which made it hard to know if she worked there or not.

We ordered two different personal pan pizzas and one sandwich with french fries. We also ordered pop, water and tea. They came out with plenty of ice and cold. All the food came out hot and smelling good.

The cost of a decent size personal pan pizza and a drink came to under $8.00. The cost of a sandwich and french fries was under $10.00. The prices seem to be pretty reasonable. We didn’t order any appetizers or adult beverages.

With great food, good serve and a laid back atmosphere we all said we would go back to Bonzai and eat there again. We would bring our family and friends there to eat and hang out. Despite the dark lighting and not being able to tell the staff from the costumers the experience was a good one.

La Cabana  located along the strip in downtown Grand Island offers some of the best Mexican food north of the border with some of the best service and hospitality around.

As they always say "looks can be deceiving" this restaurant is tucked away in a plaza featuring a liquor store, and a handful of other restaurants that may lead you to second guess your visit but don't be fooled! As you walk in La Cabana you get a little taste of Mexico with the bar and walls carefully decorated with ceramic tiles and the Hispanic wait staff awaiting to seat you as soon as you walk through the door. The dining area offers wide open floor plan with plenty of space between tables and even offers two separate "party rooms" just off the main dining area perfect for any group big or small.

The food is made to order and service is amazing. During my visit my glass was never empty and the food was delivered faster than getting a value meal at any drive thru restaurant. The food is great and as authentic as you are going to get without taking the trip to South America and also fairly priced with each dish averaging the price of a value meal at your local drive thru.

Spice up your evenings on the weekend with a live band and a hospitable atmosphere that will keep you coming back time and time again. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and get some amazing food, service, and have a good time without breaking the bank.

Temple

Over many years people have watched countless movies in their lifetime and this was going to be no different for me. I was told that I was going to have to watch a movie and do a review on it. Being kind of thrilled about the assignment we started a three day class journey on watching a semi documented drama about the life of an amazing woman with autism, Temple Grandin.

Like most parents, Eustacia Grandin wanted to have and raise a normal child. Howeve, when she realized that her daughter was not talking or acting like other children at the age of 4 she decided to take her to see a therapist. There Eustacia was told that here daughter was autistic and that she should be committed into a psychiatric ward. Some parents would have given in but, Eustacia refused and worker with her daughter to be as normal as possible. Temple Grandin was a woman who viewed the world differently than most. She connected pictures with her mind when conversations were spoken. She didn't understand people and never liked to be touched. Eventually Temple found her true comfort in helping animals and eventually people who were autistic just like her.

The overall presentation of the movie was very different. It draws you in and tries to let you see the world in some parts through Temple’s eyes. One really good example was when a piece of paper that indicated where Temple’s room was had fallen off her door. When Temple went to go to her room saw the images of horror that Temple was feeling when she was lost. Not only did we see it through an emotional stand point but we also saw just how greatly her mind worked when it came to either fixing things or when she would actually put pictures together in her mind that were just sayings or jokes that she didn’t understand.  From the mother’s point of view we see someone who is fighting and continuing to support Temple even when she doesn’t believe in herself. It is something that an audience can truly connect with emotionally.

Claire Danes who played Temple Grandin did a marvelous job at her role. It can be really difficult for actors to get into such a unique role and it’s even more pressure when you know you will be portraying someone that may one day see what you have done. All the other actors made the film truly believable and I thought they did a magnificent job.

Overall the movie was an amazing piece of work that really got you to look at what others can see the world as and may help some people realize that shouldn’t judge someone who seems different. I would recommend it to people because not only is it an inspiring movie but it even had its bits of comedy in it as well.

Tempal good or bad

Loud music then a girl comes on the screen and introduces her-self. Her name is Temple. We still haven’t got the volume turn down yet. Temple walks off screen, and blades of an airplane come on the screen along with Temple whom is getting off an airplane very slowly. She looks around and she can see flames coming from the ground that is how hot it is. She finally is off the plane and she walks up to a lady who seems to be waiting for her. They get in a pickup and drive to the lady’s house that seems to be Temple’s aunt. They arrive on a ranch as they drive up Temple has to get out of the truck to open a gate so her aunt can drive the truck through. Temple then becomes fastened with the gate. She then begins to study how it moves. She builds a device that when you pull a rod it opens for an amount of time then it will close by itself.
The story begins with her arriving on her aunt’s farm and having a panic attack. Earlier in her day she had seen some cows go through a device that helps calm them while a rancher brans them. She runs out to this device and as she is running out there her aunt comes running too. Temple asks her aunt to close the device on her too like the cows. Surprisingly it calms her quickly. It like a hug without the physical contact of a human. Then it’s time for her to go to college. It has some flash backs of her in high school with her favorite teacher who happens to be a science teacher. She repeatedly tells everyone she doesn’t understand people that they confuse her. After she finally decided to go to college her mother takes her. When Temple sees she is to have a roommate and she isn’t there yet Temple wants to go home right away and has a panic attack again. When her roommate shows up she is in her homemade calming device. It freaks out the roommate and she tells the dean. They debate on if she should keep it. She does an experiment on if it helps other girls. She then puts herself in her studies as she studies cows and their behavior. She then starts her hands on studies at a slaughter farm. She rights many papers for her college. She then wants to continue her study of cows but they won’t let her on the property anymore. So she goes and gets a job at a newspaper. She becomes a cow reporter. Then she goes to an autism conference where they keep telling the mothers that they should send their children away to these mental hospitals. Temple specks out she tells them that if you just work with your children they cannot be cured but they can become a member of the community.
They actors and actress of this film, well the girl playing Temple was ok. She did a great job in some place but I didn’t really feel the sad, happy, or any emotion except the anger she did great at making the audience feel her anger. The mother was an ok actress she didn’t real show much emotion. The acting in this movie was low. There was barley any feeling in this movie, I think that the only reason any of the students stayed awake during the movie is because Temple yelled a lot so it keep scaring them awake. The story line was good but the actors and actress where not top of the list but they did well with what they had. They had low budget and not much of a script to move around with. All in all the acting was ok better than a high school play but not as good as a blockbuster.

Resturant review

Sin City Review

My partner David and I chose to eat at Sin City, it is located down town on 3rd street. It is a rather small, local restaurant. According to our server the restaurant has only been open for two years. We rated the restaurant by its atmosphere, cleanliness, food, and prices.

When you first walk in, you right away get the feeling of relaxing because there is a big, odd shaped, purple seating area and a small black couch with golden throw pillows, also making a friendly, house warming atmosphere. As you walk further in to the right there is a small bar and to the left some tables, even further there are booths, where we choose to sit. Our server was friendly and attentive. When we arrived in the afternoon, there were only a few other customers. Sin City is very modern in décor, also it had a few TV’s and a game section including a pool table ect. Along with the restaurants modern looks it was kept up and clean.

The restaurant was very clean. Tables and everywhere else, and to us, if it is kept clean where customers are then it must mean then it must also be clean on the inside in the kitchen area. The food great, when we arrived we asked our server for an opinion on what item was best on the menu and we were recommended a very good meal. Both David and I picked the same burger and we both thought it was delicious. For me of course it was far too much so I had to ask for a to-go box. While we were there we bumped into some school friends so we had an enjoyable time.

As for the price we had different opinions, I didn’t think it was too bad because the food was really good and also it was a large size. For David on the other hand, he believed it was rather pricy. Of course I think this difference is because I’m a girl and I he’s a guy, most guys eat far more than girls, also the way we saw proportion was different. It is all in the way you see it, so on the price, it would depend if you think 10 bucks for a big sized burger and fries is too much.

Overall, we would recommend the restaurant to anyone who has an appetite for good burgers and a good time with friends. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the best there is, we would give a nine, because Sin City was without a doubt a good place to eat and relax and its cleanliness and good service. A ten would be for a high class, fine dining sort of restaurant.

Miguel, Gaby, Megan: El Toro

Walking into El Toro, the setting was very clean and inviting. The lighting offered a welcome feel, which is uncommon for restaurants. The floors were also very well kept with no trash on them. When seated, we all felt very comfortable in our booth. Theyw ere easy to get in and out of. The bathrooms were also very clean and nicely kept. There was a sign for employees to wash their hands which is good and made us feel secure about the restaurant's interest in their employees and customers. Overall, it was a good, neat experience at El Toro.

The service at El Toro Restaurant was excellent. When we first walked in, we didn't have to wait very long to be seated. About a minute after we walked in, we were seated in a booth. Right away, our waiter, Jose, introduced himself and then told us some of the specials they had going on that day. Then he asked us what we would like to drink, and a minute later he came with our drinks, chips, and salsa. As I was looking around the restaurant, I saw the other waiters doing the same thing. That meant to me that it is good service all over the restaurant. It only took elevent minutes for them to bring out our order- talk about fast! During our meal, not just Jose, but some of the other staff came around to see how we were doing and to check to see if we needed anything else. The only problem with the service was trying to get the check so we could pay and leave. We had to get up and go to the desk and pay, instead of Jose going and paying for it. Overall, we believe it was good service.

El Toro's food is very delicious When we got our food, it was hot, which is good. I ordered shrimp with chicken breast, and the other two ordered chimichangas, which came with rice, beans, lettuce, and guacamole. These meals were very delicious. The portion size was very large, and it filled us up. The prices were not too bad, but a little expensize; it depends on what you order. Not everything is expensive.

We would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great meal. It is clean and welcoming. The staff will treat you as if it is your home. And when it comes down to it, you get your money's worth.
